I have a friend who asked me the other day if they could confirm vacation time used with Human Resources regarding someone that they work with. Its a state employee position. I thought that was a good question! Anyone else been in this situation? It appears the individual has been taking days off here and there and a good chance that vacation slips have not been submitted. No overtime has been worked to justify this. The person is a salary employee.

The person inquiring would not be very concerned about this situation except for the fact that he/she is dilligantly told by their boss to submit their vacation/sick time religiously.

Thanks in advance.

i know that in the world of corperate america it is viewed as stealing from the company. most corperate companies have a cap on how much vacation time you can earn before you stop earning it. which will force the employee to start turning in there slips. if the employee were to leave the company , in most cases they are paid their unused vacation time. i don't know if the state has a cap or if you can just earn a limitless amount of vacation. either way if they are taking time off for vacation and getting paid regular pay it will probobly be viewed as stealing.

If I read this correctly, you have a friend who wants to find out about the amount of vacation time used by someone else who works for the state.

Human Resources is not going to release information to someone other than the employee himself or to his supervisors. Tell you friend if he thinks someone is cheating on the vacation time, he can/should report that violation to Human Resources, his immediate supervisor or the supervisor of the employee he is accussing of cheating.

Just a matter of being called a Rat :D

Ive learned in my 30 plus years of working. I only worry about My Salary, MY vacation, and MY benefits.
When you start probing what others are doing, the first thing comes to mind is " why are they investigating someone else's time off, instead of working??"
Also, sometime the light your trying to shine on someone, get turned around and its now shining on YOU.
Ive seen numerous times, where someone starts complaining, and pretty soon, their looking for a job.

All excellent advice. I don't know if the person who wants to inquire about the time usage has a clean record or not but I agree with the posts that say "Those who live in glass houses...."

the only thing I make sure I do at work is a good job,
Being that it is a state worker, it would probably take an act of God to have them removed or disciplined
