Actually was hoping it would be a Tarpon report, but I could not get a bite this AM.
Hit the pogies around the Sea Turtle early this am, caught a 6 foot shark that was spinning my X Factor around like a top. That was an interesting ride.
I watched a tarpon hit a pod a couple of hundred yards from me, and as I snuck up on them, here roars a powerboat right into the middle them.
A little while later as I hunt down another pod, I see a small tarpon in the middle, but I am out of bait! The barracudas were robbing me blind.
I cast netted some more, watched the birds, them moved over to the next pod, almost running over a tarpon head on.
I would guess I spooked him because I never saw him again. I caught one smaller shark, and then headed for my typical crash and burn rollover in the surf.
I gotta start coming in backwards some day.

nice sharky! -those are alot of fun!
we went out last week off 18th south and managed a med whiting for the freeze. Chased around a couple "skrimp catchin boats" but the only thing big behind them was flipper and friends. I had a hit from what felt like a small shark and something ate ALL of my buddy's terminal tackle in one go (18" steel leader and all). Amen on the soggy ride in. We were both sittin pretty riding a nice wave in and BAM we both went under. I looked over and he was sputtering and only managed to lose a gatorade bottle that I managed to grab on my second wave in.
lookin forward to getting back out there!

I have yet to have a shark in the lap like that. Since they can bend and twist so easily bad stuff can happen. Once it does it's too late to rethink. Bet it was fun fight though :D

Jeff,
I kissed him on the nose and set him free. I made sure the six footer was exhausted
before I reached over to cut the line.

gatortale, I have not rolled the kayak over since using the paris hilton approach to the beach, you see a wave coming and paddle forward before it crashes over the bow. As for your bait situation. Leave the cast net in the truck. Use your inshore gear rigged with a weight and a couple of treble hooks. You just snatch hook one bait at a time. I probably takes only a few more seconds to do than if you were on a boat netting them from the live well. Robbie

Surf reentry tip...

As soon as you can get out and stand, do so (think knee deep to thigh deep water). Stop trying to ride them all the way into the beach. It's usually the following waves that get you.

You can thank me later and avoid even more spills this way. Don't ask me how I know, just chalk it up to experience. :D

Maybe I'm just slow, but why is this method named after a clueless socialite millionaire?
