Getting hooked up with a paddle surf board tomorrow - been trying it for a while. Might even try to catch a red from it in the ICW once I am more proficient. Anyone else here interested? I was thinking of starting a new forum for it.

I know UFAngler has been doing it in his backyard in the ICW and in the ocean on calm days.

WOW.... Funny you should mention Paddle Surfing KM.
My Bro-in-law in Hawaii is heavily involved in Paddle surfing.
He's been keeping me updated on his races.

I've been wanting to try it but I can't afford the board and Lori would be upset if I stored the board in the living room!

That's where I store mine. Although, I'm sure Jen doesn't mind because her's is next to mine.

I've thought about it. I've also got some friends that are really getting into surf kayaking. Great idea on starting the forum.

Well that was the original idea of the Wavewalk kayak, a "surf toy for young dudes" as the Yoav Rosen the founder would put it. I've not tried it but he keeps telling me it's loads of fun paddle surfing the W500 at the beach. Maybe it's time to give it a shot.

Yes Sir!....I will only tell you that it is exceedingly frustrating to paddle out through heavy surf only to find bait and tarpon everywhere! Right now I just have a 12'1" built for flat water but it gets on the waves pretty well too....Already have my next board picked out: http://www.star-board-sup.com/2010/news/read.php?threadid=6849

There's a little paddle race this weekend too....don't know if I'll be up for it after fishing for some slimey kings but we'll see....http://www.active.com/more-sports/jacksonville-beach-fl/jax-beach-paddle-challenge-2010

Enjoy!....careful though....it is almost as addictive as the yak....

OK I just picked up a Starboard cruier, 12'6" long and 30" wide from Black Creek.

Once proficient I might see an emmrod in my future!

:D Finally a mention of Emmrod from the Dude, Head Guy and Big Kahuna himself. Hmm is it now "Paddleboard Mike"?

I think it looks like a ton of fun...just recently got into kayak fishing though so it may be quite some time before I get a chance to try it. How fun would it be to get a tarpon on one of those!?!

What a timely post. I just returned from Maui and Kauai and was motivated watching all of the SUP'ers. Just today I received a 12'1" Laird Hamilton Surftech SUP from a friend of mine that used to live there and is moving back and did not want to pay to have it shipped back. I still have to go to Aqua East to get a paddle for it.

I hope to pick up a paddle at lunch tomorrow. Cant wait to get proficient at it and its a great core work out. Down the road when I get good at it I might get the accessory for a fishing rod holder. Though taking it out in the surf sounds good too! :rr:

That Laird is the perfect board, you will love it. Check out the Werner paddles at Black Creek or the C4 Waterman at AquaEast.

The Wavewalk folks http://www.wavewalk.com have been selling quite a few of their paddles to the board guys. The W paddles can be had up to nearly 11' in size. It might be an option and they are a bunch cheaper than the high end paddles. I use one that's almost 10' in my W and it's fine for standup double paddling.
