As soon as I get done re-finishing two wood rocking chairs for my girlfriend, I can get started building a Kaholo stand-up paddleboard from Chesapeake Light Craft for me.

Not planning on rigging it for fishing, just to use for paddling around. Hope to have it done by the time we head back to the Keys next June.
I'll keep you posted.

Just a heads up, I'm not absolutely positive but I think FWC treats paddle boards as a boat or kayak, and you need a pfd, and whistle while using them. I think I recall them hassling someone about not having a pfd while out on one.

I'm glad to see CLC has wood plans for one. I may have to take a crack at it. I was considering making a foam one with my neighbor that makes custom surfboards in his garage, but the CLC one looks interesting and would be something different.

It is harder than it looks. A great work out I do not feel it will be the best thing for fishing. I paddled about an hour Friday and Saturday. Feet arms legs are sore but it really is fun.

It will be a cold day in hell when I ware a whistle and a life preserver whilst paddle boarding. But thanks for the heads up.

Take care all.

Yeah, I'm thinking I may rent one before I decide to put some hours into making one. I'm thinking it's a learning curve. It seems hard at first then as you get your muscles tuned and muscle memory set, it gets easier. The first time I cross country skied I though I'd made a huge mistake buying all that stuff. Turned out to be one of my favorite sports when I got used to it. Well, I guess it was a mistake buying all that stuff since I now live in Florida and gave it all away.

Not sure that the versaboard from liquid logic (angler version from native) would work too well surfing at all, but for flats poling and cruising on flat water it's awesome. With the seat there and drop down skeg it paddles like a kayak when desired (or needed in the wind). I think we'll stock a few real SUPs next spring at SouthEast Adventure. Seems like another great way to get on the water.

I have to be the stick-in-the-mud on this one. I can't think of any water sport or water gadget that I'm not a fan of, but paddleboards make no sense to me. It's like mounting your Stradic on top of the rod and calling it a "bait cast spinner". It will work but not so well. I think you either go surfing or go kayaking, but maybe I'm just too old like some of the other old farts on here.

count me in on the old farts club, dont really care for them, i can stand and fish quite well from my yak, but in all fairness i say whatever floats your boat, or in your case KM, whatever floats your board

OK, where's all the reports from you guys with the paddle boards. I did do it the USVI last spring and it was a lot of fun.

I'm in the young farts club. I'd rather surf or kayak. Stop stealing all of the waves!

One of the funnest things I've ever stumbled upon. On my third board and looking for a fourth. All of you "old farts" are really selling yourself short if you think you're not strong enough. Higher wave counts, access to more secluded and less crowded spots, and a great workout that occurs while you're having fun!
I'd recommend to anyone looking for an almost guaranteed good time.

I am proud to be an "old fart"....After a quadruple by-pass and two carotid artery surgeries I choose to fish from a Versa Board.
Over my wife's objections,I plan on cashing my chips in as a "reckless old fool" as opposed to a couch potato.
