Went out in search of Mr. T-Poon this morning. Saw some pogies down south but they were so tight in the surf they were tough to snag and fish. I did see one or two poons literally in the surf. By midmorning nothing was happening and bait was scarce, so I moved.

Wife informed me pogies near the kids surf camp were getting waxed - it figures when I drive 25 miles south they're right in my backyard ;)
By the time I got there they had moved to the pier and south, so I launched in S. Jax Beach and chased for a couple hours.

Never did hook up with any poons although I saw a couple - tons of sharks. Thought I had a poon because this fish did not act like a shark and what do you know it was a 20lb King! Conventiently enough the Nut Deep guys were right behind me and I traded them the fish for a pic and a gaff.

He ate a live pogie on one of my tarpon rigs. A cajun thunder with 80lb fluoro and a 14/0 circle hook :toothy7:

He was mouth hooked so long as I had pressure on him his teeth didnt touch the leader. It was a bit abraided. If I was hunting for kings I'd use a wire rig with some trebles, not what he hit.

Surprises are always welcome :D Great to see you got out there today. I was driving down the beach this afternoon and wondered why I wasn't out there. Congrats on the King

Great shot Mike! Bet that was a heck of a nice battle. Sounds like you earned that one for all the running around you had to do.

Nice Fishy Mike!

(didn't Chappy tell you he caught his 'poon in your backyard?)

MAN! That water looks GREAT!

We went out of Nassau Sound Monday morning and felt like we'd been through the spin cycle :laughing5:
Saw a few spectacular crashes with pogies flying everywhere, but we didn't do anything.

BTW: How does a shark act? I was hooked up for a long while with something that ran like scalded cat, then my visibly frayed 100lbs flouro tippet came back at me. I'd like to fool myself into thinking it was something other than a shark. ;)
