I just could'nt stand it, with the Mrs and kids OOT I had another chance to fish today. Once again the day started with smaller fish and worked up to the bigger ones. A few ratties north of the tower on the westside, then worked a cajun thunder with a new penny in tow in the channel. The smaller fish seemed to be plentiful which is great for the future, but the here and now fish was lacking. That is until I put on some of the scraps I saved from the red I caught yesterday, then this 21" red went cannibal on me and took my amby for a ride.
About noon it started to cloud up and looked like rain to the SW. I was about 3 miles from SML so I had to go. Been out there during an electrical storm before, its real scary. Five minutes from the ramp I had to stop, Don't laugh, you have all done it, you know, just a few more casts and I'll go. Well it payed off, second cast of the popping cork and this 24" trout nailed the new penny that was chasing it. All in all it seems as if Guana is getting back to normal with some new fish being let in with the last few high tides. If anyone goes out, start fishing as soon as you turn south after going west out of SML. The fresh salt water has brought
the trout north.

happy, C.

Very nice Crusher. I just missed you out there yesterday. Was out at 6 mile around 4:00. Lost 3 nice fish and caught a 4 inch redfish ( personal best for the smallest redfish ) and 15 inch trout. The ones lost seemed to be nice size trout, I agree the trout are up there. Still not having the success that you are having out there though. Way to go !!!!

Thanks nightstalker, but I have to tell you, after seeing your last report I'd have to call you the trout master. I can only imagine the time and effort you spent learning to locate and catch that load. I sometimes believe people think that," if I have the local and bait, I do that too". It is not true, there are nuances to every part of having a system that produces fish. Many of you reading this post know exactly what I'm talking about. Catching quality fish is not a gimmy. It's a practice.

thanks for the props, C.

BTW, check this out, ten months ago at guana, almost same fish and clothes but that red was a 26 incher.

Thanks, Crusher! And you are exactly right... Finding the fish is only half the battle... I can't tell you how many times I have been on a school of fish actively feeding, and no matter what I threw at them, they just wouldn't eat... The good thing about those situations is that it's a PRIME learning opportunity. If the fish are feeding, and aren't hitting your lure, you need to switch something up. (retrieve, color, lure, etc) I have definitely learned the most while fishing schools that didn't want to eat...

Regarding that other pic, wow... Another hog of a trout!!! Any idea how much it weighed? Makes me want to get back over to Guana again! ;) I have never fished the lake other than fishing from the dam/shore, and I haven't done that in years. Not since you could fish all night, anyway. (they close the gates at 11pm now, right?) I have a canoe with trolling motor available, and I have really been wanting to get out there, but have been discouraged by the reports of low water and sub-par fishing...

Does anybody know if they have started shrimping off the east bank yet?

Hey Crusher!! Another great fishing report and "conditions report" from you!!! THANKS!!!

Those two pix of you holding the nice redfish and very nice trout are "deja vu all over again"....LOL!!!

That pic looks like the water level is getting close to "back to normal" but I did not see the concrete ramp in that picture....at least NO SLOGGING, correct???

Thx for the report....I kept waiting for the storms to blow thru so I could get a late afternoon quick trip to end the month of June...DANG!! May have to sneak down there tomorrow with the new flyrod just to see what I can do!!
Thx again...JohnYaksJax
