Planning to try and get out on Friday (28th) of next week. Thinking about trying Mill Cove, but have no idea where to go. Anyone have any advice on tides, "general" areas to fish? We usually fish off of Heckscher but want to try something new. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

If you want to check out Mill Cove you can launch at the Lonnie Wurn park/ramp right near the north end of Rogero Rd. Tides should be about 0430 low, 1020 high (at Dames Pt). So decent flow incoming at sunrise. Start with topwater around the docks at 1st light or over any deeper pts/oyster/dropoffs for your trout. Then miles of grassline pocked with oyster for your red. Back to structure for flounder

I fished it last week for the first time with MountainDewMan. We used Lonnie Wurn and left the ramp heading to the right which is to the east I think. Towards the Dames Point Bridge. Big grass island that way along with many docks to fish under around.

Finger Mullet! Seen some doormats pulled out of there on finger mullet. A redfish magic is productive around the docks too. Be careful on that low tide, the water runs out quick even for a kayak.
Oh, and watch out for the gator!

Cool thanks for the responses...we may give it a go. So it is the big open area out there? Guessing wind and current can be a big issue if they are stacked against you...

Live shrimp seem to be the way to go in Mill Cove right now. I went out last Sunday and had zero success with mud minnows. Didn't have any finger mullet, but reds usually like them. If you leave the Lonnie Wurn ramp and head left, there are two nice deep channels between the three grass islands out there. Be careful around low tide though, last weekend I stayed too long in the deep spot and got stranded there, had to walk my way out.

After multiple T.V. shows and thousands of flats boats lurkers and all the reports, Mill Cove aint what it used to be. You won't catch me there on a Sat. or Sun. At least you can count on the negative tides and those that don't heed the advice of others to be careful at low tide for comic relief if the fish aren't biting(md23 not singling you out I've been there too). There are however plenty of places around Jax and many fish in the sea (creeks and flats too)!!!

lol thats funny considering people fished the cove for many a year and the last 2 years has not been much different. the fishing has been slow there so far this year due to the winter more than any new pressure due to crowds of kayakers and snoopy boaters stealing the secrets of the elite kayak anglers :compress:

Common Mike you know this how? Your shrimp would be long dead before you got to the Cove from any bait shop?

Just stating my opinion!!!

The last ten years, i have fished the cove 90 % of the time. The east end is much more productive for me. The area around the ramp can be hit or miss, but for me, it has'nt been great the last few years. Maybe they're on to me.
