Are any of you folks police, firefighter or EMTs who know much about glass breakers? When I first got to that car with young lady today I could have gotten her out quickly if I had some type of glass breaker that would have gotten through the back window. There was zero room to swing a tool at it but I know officers have some type of tool that would work without a big swing. I've seen a few this afternoon on line but wonder if they really work. So some professional suggestions would be great. I've used knives for years but never a glass breaker of any kind. This is the second time in the last few years Kate and I have been right there when bad happened. I want to be prepared should the wrong things ever happen again. Thanks

I had 30+ years in the fire service
There are a few types that really work, the best is a spring loaded tool that you just press against the glass, as you apply pressure it "clicks" and the spring fires a carbite tipped core that shatters any auto glass. The other is a small weighted hammer with a movable weight inside. you need a little room to swing but only a few inches.

The spring loaded type was what we needed. I'll be looking at those ones from Benchmade tomorrow. Thanks!

harbor freight sells that glass breaker for dirt cheap. I believe it even comes with a small holder. I think they call it a "spring loaded punch"

Yes...The spring loaded one is the way to go with limited space. The hammer style ones do not usually take too much room to swing and most of them have an integrated seatbelt cutter as well just for food for thought. Nice work the other day by the way. You are to be commended. :salute:

A Spring loaded center punch is the way to go. Harbor Freight, Sears or Home Depot should have them. All you have to do is place it against the window and push, the window should explode and shatter into a million peices.
