Here's the secret to having an amazing day on the water:
- Don't Bring a Camera.
I don't know what a Key Biscayne slam is, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say I got 2/3 of one.
It was an interesting day. I paddled out to my Trout spot. First cast with a Redfish Magic paddle tail on a jig head and Boom - personal best Bonefish. ~28'' - he was as wide as my yak.
Fighting and Landing a Bone in a kayak is very different from the beach/wading. He made big strong runs, but it jut felt
different. Plus the wind was blowing me all over the place. They're tough to land too...everytime I got him yakside, he'd surge and run for like 30 seconds.
Two casts later, the wind was kicking my butt, so I trolled the same paddle tail and my rod bends over....but no drag pulls out...weird, because it's loose (turns out I'm trolling tip-wrapped). I set the hook and up jumps a nice Snookie! It's a quick fight on 8# mono and I get him yakside. He surges under the boat, I get tip-wrapped and he comes unbuttoned.
So those were my first 5 casts. First yak Bonefish (and PB!!!) and first yak Snook (trolling?). The next 6 hours....NOTHING.
All in all a great day, although the rest of it stunk and I have no photos. I get my Canon D10 back from Canon on Monday - they replaced it for free.
Way to go, Canon!
One more thing....I saw a flats skiff out there today poling. I kept my distance, as they were both looking at the water for fish (Bones, I'm guessing). I paddled WAY around them, so as not to spoil their sightfishing, and anchored up to have lunch. In the 45-60 mins I watched them, they DIDN'T MAKE ONE CAST!?

....I don't think I'd have the patience for that.
