For those of you that have heard of Corkys or used them this is good news. Storm had brought out two versions of their own. They have apparently stopped listing them but must have made tons of them. I even have some listed on my website http://www.jeffstacklebox.com for sale I got in bulk some time back. These things listed for over 5 dollars at one time. The two versions are the "mullet" and the "croaker". I loved the coaker version since it had the rattle inside. Anyway as much as I would love to sell more through my site I can't not pass up giving fellow anglers a deal. CHECK WAL-MART's near you :D . I got this tip originally from a fellow angler here who had purchased some from me on my site. Seems Wal-Mart must have gotten a bunch of the Storm lures and could not move them. Now they are in bins in the tackle department at ----- ready for this :-B a single buck!!! one dollar, wow that ls a deal. I picked up a even dozen last night in Palatka moments after a clerk put them out, timing is everthing. Many of the lures are the mullet model so pick through carefully if you re looking for that croaker version with the rattles. If you miss this deal don't worry Mirrolure has picked up the original Corky line but the price will be $5 plus again so check through the Wal-Marts just in case for the Storms. I've had good luck on the Storm croaker versions and at least this season have a good supply. By the way if the lures get sliced up they are soft PVC in construction so a quick dip in PVC cleaner seals them back up. Just remove the hooks first. For those of you that attended Roger Bumps event at Dick's Wings the other night this lure is a killer in big trout, very popular in Texas. The current Texas state record was on one.

The original Corky is fantastic. I don't know about the knock-offs. Don't mention a Corky knock-off to a Texan. You might get your butt kicked. They hate Corky knock-offs in Texas.

Well as of now all the Corkys are officially knockoffs since Mirrolure is having them made in Mexico under Mr. Brown's direction. The Storm product was always pretty good and in fact when I fished in Texas the guys there used them. I've found both lures fish the same for me. I always prefered the Fat Boy from the Corky lineup which is the same as the Storm Croaker. They also work real well for smallmouth and pike in Canada.

Ditto on the "Fat Boy." I used it a lot before the Mirrodine hit the market.

Hey Jeff, is the packer pole good for saltwater fishing?

The Packer pole is fine in saltwater with the right reel. In my case it is one of the ABU round frame reels since both the Packer handle and the ABU round frame are designs from the 1950s. My current favorites to combine with a Packer are either a 5500 or 6500 size. Both those reels are tanks on the Packer handle and you are ready for anything. I like the outfit with big topwaters like Super Spooks. If you use the little Synergy reel that comes in a Packer combo you are way limiting what the rod can do because of the limits of a spincast reel. Shoot me specific rigging quesions you might have and I'll help where I can.

Also Jeff, this may sound noobish but I've never used a baitcaster before. I've been fishing with spinning reels since I was four so a 21 year habbit might be hard to break. Is there any baitcasters you can recommend based on my inexperience with them? Any of them more forgiving? I've seen my dad use them and they seem prone to birdnesting, though knowing him he might not be using it correctly either, lol

I was driving back to Jax yesterday and stopped in St. Mary's for gas and food, and decided to check the WalMart there - yep - a big box in the back corner, bottom shelf, with both patterns - $1.00 each.

I hope they work!

Yes they work and man are they cheap at Wal-Mart right now. I use them and have caught a load of fish on them but no way can I match that price. Still a great deal! :D at Wally World.
