I am not really new to the area, been here almost 5 years, but I am haveing a real problem on hooking up with those huge black drum I keep hearing about.. Help me out with a general area and type of bait.. I live between Yulee and Fernandina Beach. I have put a bunch of time on the water and have caught only small but very good to eat ones. I would like to catch some realy big ones , catch , photo and release only.

If your looking for big drum, the inlets are your best bet by the jetties. It is dangerous especially in a kayak but they should produce some good sized drum this time of year.

I haved lived in this area for over fifteen years now; and I have several drum over the fifty lb mark under my belt. However all of them were caught from my power boat. Fernandina is home to the state record for the last 40+ years or so for these bruts. That being said; I was kinda thinking about trying to land one from my yak this spring. The next couple of months will be prime time for them, and I know a couple of "do-able" spots that may produce. If your interested; get with me in the next few weeks and we can give it a try.
