Hello everyone! First off I'd like to tell the Jax Yak crew what a great job they did on this site. It is extremely informative. Secondly I've got kind of a dumb question. I'm about to buy my first yak and move to Jacksonville in the next 6 months or so and was wondering, when you catch a big fish, say a king for instance, where do you store him if you want to keep him? At first my mind said cooler, but that'd have to be a big cooler for even a 14' yak. LOL! Sorry for the random question was just curious.

Storage depends on the kayak. There are some very well done fish bags that conform to the hull shape. Coolers are another answer and the large soft coolers such as the ones on this site handle the fish storage job well.

First, you can get a kayak, like this, that was designed to hold fish. Imagine that. My fishbox is 7 feet long.

This first 2 photos is the Dorado l with a 6 foot box, I have the Dorado ll, with a 7 foot box.

It will also hold 20 pounds of ice, and 2 cases of beer! :D

My FeelFree Moken has a large 'big fish hatch' in the front...something about a fish bleeding out through the scupper holes in the hatch always makes me a bit nervous though...another good reason to pick up one of those fancy fishbags

It's also a great place to stowe a large green fish you plan to keep until it calms down a bit.

Hey krazo84......Welcome to JaxKayakFishing and please pardon the people that want you to pay $2,500 for a "longer fish box"....LOL!!

Please let us know where you live and where you intend to fish, and we will try to offer some suggestions on what types and brands of kayaks to consider buying.....sounds like you are a long way from purchasing one at this time...but that is good to give you time to learn!!

Also, there are only a few people in here who have caught Kingfish in their kayaks, and Punisher who posted above is one of them....but, he DID NOT catch them out of a Kaskazi Dorado......but....I'll bet this summer he will!! ;)

PS: My buddy, SLP053, from Georgia caught a whole bunch of nice kingfish last summer at Panama City Beach, plus one VERY NICE dolphin (mahi mahi) and LOTS of Spanish Macks!!
