Here's a shot of Jeremy the manager for New Berlin boat and RV (also an Emmrod dealer) with a red he nailed a few nights back :D . It was on a Topwater Special Emmrod casting rig running some of the new Fins braided line. From what I was told the fish made him a fine dinner companion.

I get more interested in your emmrods every time I see one, seriously considering picking one up. Assuming it has the same action as a traditional rod it seems like it would take a lot of the pain of tall rods out of catching fish from the yak. How do they do for trolling? Seems like you would need an extended rod holder to prevent multiple lines tangling.

The rods are a trolling staple out west where Emmrod was founded. Most of that was motor trolling off boats that the owner used fishing for salmon. I've played with it some in my W500 off of the front RAM mount keeping the line inside my casting stroke. Casting is my favorite way to use them and the baitcast versions are my favorite. Having grown up with casting reels starting with a direct drive little Ocean City and braided dacron it's hard to put them down.

I have the spinning version emmrod and I like to have it with me sometimes, but the line gets into the coil occasionaly. I have yet to catch a fish with it that is bigger than the rod. I hope that post will be up in the next few weeks.

Johnny at genungs was nice enough to let me test one out yesterday but as soon as I got on the water I realized I had the casting version and it didn't work at all with my little shimano spinning reel. Hoping to pick up a new reel and just getting it, assuming I can cast it right when I get the proper reel.

The Packer casting handle that we have at Emmrod (the ones Johnny had in stock) requires a reel with a higher reel foot. That little Synergy fits it well. The handle style that pole has is a retro style 50s handle used at that time for round baitcast reels. In bait casters the best for it are the ABU 4500, 5500, or 6500 series reels the narrower the spool the lower the number. For a skilled thumb it's a riot especially with a big topwater like a Spook Jr. The rig works well if you combine that baitcaster with a good quality mono from 14lb to16lb test and then add a 20lb mono leader.

A buddy of mine let me borrow his abu 5600 seems to work well just playing with it. Waking up early for some sunrise fishing tomorrow will post my experience with the emmrod, thanks for the help.

Well casting on land and out of the yak are two different stories as we all know, but lets just say I don't have a skilled thumb and need a little work with casting reels before i'll leave the spinning tackle at home. And honestly couldnt give a proper review right now because I couldn't cast it far enough to catch a fish ha. My fault tho not the equipments  , like the feel of the emmrod and everything, going to see if i can get my hands on a spinning version just cause i still would like to catch a fish on one! :D

My problems with the Emmrod getting the line in the coils are over. Went to meet Jeffery to discuss issues I was having. Turns out, my rod was faulty and he hooked me up with the new spinning version. Bass fished with it Sunday evening and all of the kinks are worked out. Casts great, has a shorter handle with higher quality cork. Caught a 20" or so bass with it, no problem. Cant wait to get it out in the salt.

I would like to see how they differ when "working" a lure. They look interesting.

Hey Yakass glad to hear the new spinning model is working for you. This new model what I call the saltwater spinning rod on my site http://www.jeffstacklebox.com is going to be very popular. It has all the changes I wanted Emmrod to make in a very angler friend package. Combined with a 7 coil rod it is a great outfit for freshwater or saltwater use with lures from 1/8oz up to a full ounce. Just be prepared to have some very jealous regular rods amoung those already in your stable. Emmrods are very habit forming and hard to stop playing with.
