I was thinking about looking for a water proof camcorder for my Kayak.
Anyone have any recommendations for a decent one that maybe has a remote for on and off?
Thanks in advance.

Mark

I think Sanyo was the first and may still be the only mfg. to offer a waterproof camcorder. Rich (Rich.FlyFishJaX) has one and has posted several videos on this site taken with the camcorder. If you search for his posts, you'll see them. He also left this link:

http://sanyo.com/xacti/english/products ... index.html

Good luck with your search.

Hey Afishy1....do a "Search" (see under the JKF logo!!) on "sanyo" and you will get 11 "hits" with PLENTY of info!!!
JohnYaksJax

PS: Bought one for my daughter and her family for Christmas and it is great!!! The newer HD model is even better but is was about 3X the cost and they did not need the HD....

Hey Thanks Guys. I must admit I did not do a search on this one and should have. Sorry.
I have seen Rich's videos and they are nice and clear. I do not have much money to throw out for one so HD is not on the table for me.
Thanks for you guys help.

Hey Mark....Not a problem about the "Search"...LOL!!! It DOES contain tons of info tho!!

Just checked and I got the Sanyo Exacti (NON HD) back in late November and a bigger SD card for $215 which included tax and expedited shipping to TN.

Just found this old email info on JUST the camera:

Delivery estimate: November 25, 2009 1 "Sanyo Xacti VPC-E2 Digital Camcorder and 8 MP Digital Camera (Blue)"
Electronics; $167.98
Sold by: Amazon.com, LLC

If you found a NEW one still available someplace, it should be even less!!!
Good Luck...JohnYaksJax

Vivatar($99) and Kodak ($149) also have waterproof camcorders. The Kodak records in HD. (can be found at Amazon)

Thanks Dreads that gives me some more options. I will run all those make and models by consumer reports and also cnet and see if I they have any recommendations or any known issues. Good to have choices.

Appreciate it. :thumbright:

There's the GoPro Hero Cameras and the Vholdr Contour HD that you can get a waterproof case for. I'd recommend looking at those, not really sure what you're looking for specifics wise both those are both really tough sports video cameras. I've heard good things about both.

I just bought the GoPro HD waterproof video cam, and extra mounts.
It shoots video in 5 modes, including full HD 1080p. Waterproof to 160 feet.
I love this little camera.

Just ordered the GoPro Hd. Thanks for all the recommendations. It was more money than I wanted to spend but I can use it on the Kayak, Dirt Bike, Big Boat, and even Underwater. The wife is going to kill me for the late night beer induced purchase.
Hope to put some good videos on here in the future. The camera is backordered till April 15th so it will be awhile but stay tuned.

Later, Mark

Great. I look forward to seeing the videos to get. I hope to get my kayak rigged with a camera eventually. It'll be awesome to document the fishing.

I beat the backorder, haha.
Anyway, I bought the surfboard/kayak mount, and also the head strap mount. I also picked up a couple of flat mounts to place on other kayaks, or whatever.

The video is incredible, I can't wait to document some offshore trips with it.
I think it will be pretty cool to do some surf launches with it.

Yeah after watching the videos and reading the specs I was sold. I bought an extra battery and the tripod mount. I was not sure if the surfboard mount would work on the yakak. let me know how you like it. I have to wait to buy more mounting options.$$$

I don't think the surfboard/kayak mount would stick very well to a plastic kayak in rough surf conditions, with the force of waves hitting it. I mounted mine to a fiberglass kayak, no way in hell it will ever come off.

I'm waiting for them to start selling the LCD docking screen, and the new firmware for one touch recording.
