Today KayakCV and I did the unthinkable. We took to the water to try our luck at some pole bending action even after being advised by the local weatherman that it would be cold an wet. We figured, what does the weatherman know? He is one of the few people that gets it wrong 50% of the time and gets to keep his job. Well unfortunately for us today he got it right. The day was a tale of two trips. Trip one, we launched at 10:30 AM under a light drizzle and temps in the mid 40's. The rain kept us cold and wet for most of the day. We arrived back at the launch around 3:30 PM with a big skunk. We were to tired, cold and wet to put our stuff in the car immediately. After around 30-45 minutes of hanging around the dock thawing out and observing a few shore anglers trying their luck, we noticed that the drizzle had stopped, skies had cleared, temps were climbing and tide was coming in. We began debating whether we should jump back into the kayaks and try our luck near the launch for few minutes before packing up and heading home. KayakCV was the first to jump back in while I observed and contemplated my decision. After a few minutes of observing the water I noticed a fish wake at the mouth of a nearby creek and decided to follow KayakCV out against all logical reasoning. This was the start of what I will refer to as trip 2. After around 30 minutes of no action our luck turned for the better. I ran into a school of reds while trying to remove my jig from a clump of oysters. The reds scattered but a few stuck around to reward us for our hard work and determination and kept us from going home flying the skunk flag. Overall we ended up with around 10 reds mostly in the slot with two upper slot and 1 trout during the last hour or so of trip 2. All fish were caught on live shrimp that weren't so alive after 8 hours in a flow troll with an aerator. My thanks to KayakCV for persuading me to jump back in when all indicators pointed to cutting my losses and heading home. Below are some of the pics from trip 2.

Hey flats1041 it was great to meet you. Glad you told us about your three reds as it encouraged us to get back out there and remove the skunk. After you left we headed across from the shore anglers and although we did not catch anything in that area we drift south a little following some reds pushing water and eventually got them to bite. The last hour before sunset was hot for us.

Funny how the desire to catch something over rules comfort. Nice job on that second try, glad your efforts paid off.

Thats a great ending to a nasty cold and wet day. You guys definitely deserved to be rewarded for braving those elements. Not only did you catch fish, but you caught some NICE fish!...WTG
