JYJ and I fished one of the creeks off of Heckscher today. We both caught quite a few Black Drum. I caught at least 12, and about half of them were slots up to 20". We found them in several different spots varying from oyster bars to deeper holes. All caught on shrimp. On the way back to the launch we saw lots of bait activity and a lot of bigger fish pushing wakes near the edges. Awesome weather today, calm and warm.

Nice going guys! I also slipped out onto the water for a couple of hours this afternoon myself, and chit-chatted with JYJ a bit. Ended up with half a dozen of these little guys:

...and only one of these:

As weather goes, today was about as "perfect" as it gets. Not too hot, not too cold, and NO BUGS!

What a great day to be on the water!! Sunny, not too windy, few bugs, and much warmer than the last 6 weeks of trips!!! AND....I got that "MONSTER SKUNK" off my kayak that had been a resident there for awhile!! :nopity:

Saw a bunch of old and new friends out there: Iko, Pete@Jax, our So. African family who all four caught fish, Dreads, and my buddy, DropShot!! Missed BNZ tho.....

Mudfish/Jim was the "guide" for the day since some of the places we went were new to me, and his first two "favorite spots" were already taken by Stinkpots....and both were into the black drum big time!!
The species of the day was certainly BLACK DRUM!!! Literally everyone we ran into was catching them....MANY of them....and pretty good sized ones too!!

I got six of them including ones at 17" and 19"....and all were released to make babies and catch another day!! Caught them on fiddler "krab-k-bobs" and fresh dead shrimp...nothing wanted to eat a mudminnow all day??
Fun day on the water, and some of the "scenery" paddling past us was very nice too!!

Actual proof that JYJ did get rid of that skunk . . .

Nice fishing guys. Mudfish, I can't get over your last report where you actually caught a mudfish. I'm still rolling over that one. Looks like you got out of the mudfish rutt on this trip and it is too cold for John to register his trash can slam these days!!!! Great day all the way around!!!

It was a great day on the water. Saw some old friends and met some new ones. I even had a wonderful dinner of fish tacos.
All in all it was another great time in my plastic boat.

Dreads,
Maybe you can talk Iko into posting his "Fish Tacos" recipe and some pics in the "Recipes" section ;) I've got some fresh black drum fillets that might be good in some tacos.
