As we all know with the weather we had, fishing has been hit or miss (mainly miss in my case lol). At the end of January I got the pleasure of doing some Father son Fishing guided by Capt Chris H. from http://www.PalmCoastFishing.com! Capt. Chris is a great guy and really knows his stuff and recommend him to everyone in the Palm coast, St. augustine area!

Now onto the Kayak fishing. Well I have been out a few times braving the cold but nothing worth mentioning over the past month. I even did some dock light fishing with MJP and not even a bite. Well this weekend finally warmed up but I didn't see the schools of Reds I thought I was going to :( but I was able to find this single 22" Red who wanted to eat my jumbo shrimp on a Slayer Inc destroyer 1/4 Jig. I wanted to do some sheepie fishing but everyone around is out of fiddlers so I had to change plans.

Only one picture but I have high hopes the month of March will bring some great fishing!

Tight Lines!

Glad to see you did good today Lou! I look forward to hearing how your new yak worked out?

Just an FYI.
If you are unable to get your hands on fiddler crabs. Here's a little secret that lots of people dont know. If you can find exposed, Live, oyster beds, you can find the sheeps ultimate favorite food. The oyster crab or mud crab (at least thats what we always called them) are found by flipping over clumps of oysters or breaking them up. Get yourself one of those short handled garden forks to help with the flipping. You may be surprised at how many stone crabs you find, dont use the baby stone crabs!!! Make sure they (stone crabs) are in season if you decide to harvest the claw. Fish the oyster crabs the same way you would a fiddler. I pull the pincher's off because the sheepshead will grab the crab by the claw and pull it off the hook. After you try both you will see the sheepshead eat the oyster crabs with reckless abandon. They are much better then fiddlers but a lot more work.

Hope this helps

PS Did you turn that Redfish into "Not So Famous Lou's Fish Recipe"? :D

Thanks Flip! The new Yak is awesome, I can stand, pole and fish on it, it's basically a man powered skiff! I let this one go to grow some more! One of these days you and I will have to limit out on sheeps!

Pretty cool picture man. I hear you on March. I hope it brings better quality fish as well. I love the pole being bent by whatever and the Black Drum have filled the gap nicely in Feb. but I'm ready to get back to trout and reds in March.

Hey kayakfishingpc....Nice report and picture of that redfish.....Hmmmm??? Is that what one looks like??? LOL!!

Fiddlers were "out of stock" at three B&T dealers I know of in JAX yesterday, and luckily I have been "farming" some for the last few weeks and the "krab-k-bob" paid off with a 19" black drum!!

Thx for that tip about other types of crabs...I have done that a few times by hand and gotten some of those darker brown crabs....Good info on how to locate them....THANKS!!

No Problem! Always glad to help!

Lou, thats awesome you can stand in your yak. What an advantage! I've tried a few times in my Tarpon 120, both instances I came very close to swimming with your Iphone! Here's an idea. How about a long pole with a mirror at the top?? Angle it just right and you could look up to see the fish.
