Hey KayakMike!!! Who took that outstanding picture?? It is AWESOME!!!

I walked down Oleander Street at 4:00 AM the other morning, and took some shots while I was freezing....but I would be too embarrassed to post my little "smidge" of light over the ocean!!

Who can we contact to get a print of that picture...It was announced that that Night Launch may very well be the last one!!
Thx...JohnYaksJax

Wow what a shot! That guy knows what he's doing. Well stabilized, probably a 30 second exposure. Very impressive.

Ya know....the more that I look at it....the more that I think that it is a fake....

I wish somebody that knew more that I do about rockets and physics and astronomy and photography would chime in, but...

The "photo" is awfully clear when in actuality, and I was on the beach watching it, the sky was fairly overcast, and almost cancelled the launch until the last 30 minutes or so...??

Interesting that the stars "moved" a little due to the open shutter/time lapse method, but why would the MOON not do the same thing???

Why is the rocket's actual path heading NE....100's of miles NE toward Spain which was the actual path for emergency ditching/landing...and the reflection kept going straight north up the ICW.....toward the Palm Valley Bridge it appears..????

The reflection should be UNDER the path of the rocket eventually, and therefore, would it not be out over the ocean??
Beautiful anyway, but I am less convinced that it is real.....???

I have no idea of the source - heck it might not even be in Palm Valley but it seems to be from a bridge and it came from a bug who lives in the valley.

Hey KayakMike....just got this from my buddy, Peter in Palm Valley...remember we launched at his house a LONG TIME AGO!!!

"This picture was taken by James Vernacotola. It was taken in Ponte Vedra from the top of the 210 bridge crossing the intracoastal looking south towards St, Augustine and Cape Canaveral .
He got up very early and took this picture of the last nighttime space shuttle launch and was kind enough to share with his co-workers and whomever else would appreciate the beauty of the space launch.
He took the picture using a tri-pod and the elapsed time for the picture was several minutes in order to get the full fire-trail (this is why the stars are little lines instead of dots).

Top of the Intracoastal Waterway Bridge in Ponte Vedra , FL 115 Miles from the launch - 34 Degrees outside!"

Yeah, I was up watching it too, but my pix reeked!! And, YES, it was COLD at 4:14 AM!!!

Great picture.

JYJ, since the stars are millions of miles further away than the moon, the earth rotation makes them look as though they "move" considerably further than the moon. Good observation though.

I was thinking the same thing lol!

I am pretty sure the picture is real, the shot is over exposed to get that awesome look and also to get enough light to even see anything, and it was taken with a a good tripod or surface to prevent shaking.
