New member. Was turned onto the site by a fella named Mike (goes by smoked mullet on the Outdoors Show forum). Thanks Mike!

Yes, that photo is awesome. My family & I were on our dock in the photo at 4:19 a.m. watching STS-130 launch. In fact, a neighbor of mine put this low res photo on his high res TV and it looks like you can see us standing on the dock. I have a little bit of a photography background and I can assure you that photo is real.

upthecreek & kayakfishingpc, regarding the trout under the lights, I can tell you during the summer there are a lot of trout under those lights. On our dock just two nights ago my 11 year old went out to see what he could see & catch (he’s always doing that…..). There are a ton of small fry (scienids) under the light right now with a few swirls underneath. He threw the cast net just once and got a small trout (14”). This time of the year we’ll have bluefish under the lights and in a few more months we have quite a few trout under the dock light. They’ll stay there till late November & early December. It’s awesome to go out there and just watch em. It’s really cool to see them work a school of squid, just about deplete the school, and another school will swim up and join the school. Then it starts all over again. We’ve had to downsize to 8 lb fluorocarbon and tiny hooks to catch em as they are very wary. Once you catch one it shuts the bite down for 8-10 minutes then they come back up working the shrimp & baitfish on the surface.

We’ll get a few kayakers fishing the docks in the summer time but mostly boaters.

JohnYaksJax, I’m going to be PMing you in a minute. Nice post KayakMike.

Yeah, Ryan.....Had it been about 30 degrees warmer, it would have been a PERFECT time to catch a really early fishing trip and some topwater fishing....but NOT in 30 degree temps!! LOL!!

I was at the Shuttle Endeavour Launch in February 2010. That night it was very dark because the moon was in "NEW MOON" phase and was just a sliver in the sky. The picture shows a full moon. I believe this is a fake photo. Even though it is very pretty. In time lapse photography the stars wouldn't be the only lights that are distorted.

Enough already. The picture is REAL - I met the photographer and his info is earlier in this thread. It also ran in the Beaches Leader and all the techniques the photographer used to shoot it were described.

As someone mentioned the shift and blurring on the stars is greater than on the moon because they are so much farther away.

On the date the pic was taken it was after the new moon and about half the mmon was lit up.

This thread is now closed - put your conspriacy theories to rest and just enjoy the view.
