That by placing a motor(electric or gasoline) on any vessel, you are then required to pay annual registration fees assessed by the state of Florida. Is this true? If so, I'm glad I stick to pedal power.

any vessel that has a motor, electric or gasoline operated, or any vessel over 16' needs an annual registration.

That's the story. Stick a motor on it and pay the state.

I wouldn't be surprised if they make us pay for non motored boats soon :(

Here is the link on the rules: http://myfwc.com/RULESANDREGS/Rules_Boat.htm#registration

They write:
All vessels, with the exception of non-motor-powered vessels less than 16 feet in length, non-motor-powered canoes, kayaks, racing shells, or rowing sculls, regardless of length, must be registered through your local Tax Collector's Office.

But shouldn't it be:
All vessels, (With the exception of non-motor-powered vessels less than 16 feet in length, non-motor-powered canoes, kayaks, racing shells, or rowing sculls, regardless of length), must be registered through your local Tax Collector's Office.

I've been laughing since I posted the "question" It was rhetorical in that I already knew the answer. I just wanted a nonconfrontational and rational way to respond to some prior posts--particularly a recent thread comparing apples to oranges.

OB, that's the Native electric with a trolling motor mounted midship. They have both electric and peddle drive models for those who want a choice. The motor goes through a well in front of the operator and swings up/forward if you want.

Post deleted due to the fact that I didn't break any forum rules and someone else edited it for me. The OP only started this post to continue to make a point against a thread already closed.

I am participating on a statewide Technical Assement Group for Non-motorized Vessels with FWC and their OFFICIAL position is that FWC IS NOT WORKING IN ANY FORM OR FASHION ON REGISTRATION FOR NON MOTORIZED VESSELS. And truly they are not.

When this was considered last year by the Boat Advisory Council a non-motorized subcommittee was organized and they voted it down and that ended it all.

However that does not mean that some other agency or legislator inTallahassee will not submit legislation requiring registration. But officially FWC is not considering, working on it, nor supporting it in any way.

It is true that any motorized vessel (electric or gas) must be registered in the state.
