With a serious case of cabin fever due to the past colder weather we've had and lack of yak fishing, the warmer temps. encouraged me to get out for a paddle despite the small craft advisory!.. :blackeye: So I meet up with Black Clouser and the ColordoKid. I was also anxious to use my new video-cam on its first real kayak fishing trip. With water temps. in the high 50s the Reds were not active. We managed to find 2 with blind casting around oysters. A very slow drifting lure in the natural current was the ticket to get them to eat. When they hit it felt like a Flounder. Just a mild..thump! Not to hard and didn't run to far but as always put a nice bend in the rod and woke up around the kayak. We finished up my late morning because it was blowing to hard and paddled home in 25+ MPH winds! Here's the vid...

Here's another (non-yak)video I did in my new used 16 Mitzi Skiff..

Nice pieces Rich. What type of camera are you using? I've wanted to try this myself but have limited it to the small Olympus 1030SW I have for fear of damaging nicer gear. Hey by the way don't forget about trying out my W500 sometime. It's killer into the wind and seems easier to paddle under those conditions.

Hi Jeff! Thanks. It's a Sanyo Xacti VPC-VH1. It does still images to at 2mp. My wife found the best deal on Amozon.com for $320 bucks. You can the silver colored model for $20 cheaper. I dunked it under water a few times and was fine. With the stained water it didn't show much. What you think of the HD quailty???

I will for sure try your yak out one of these days... :salute: Probably could of used it yesterday!.. ;) Thanks for the offer once again.

Congrats on the new skiff Rich. The video looks very good -very sharp and good sound. I would have no idea it was from an inexpensive (by today's standards) hand held camera. Sanyo got it together with that model.

Rich, looks nice. How long does it take to edit a clip like the kayak one? I like your new girlfriend Mitzi!

Thanks for the info. George! I can't help wonder what it looks like on someone else's computer. When I was building the movie some parts didn't look so good but they do warn you as you build it that the quality your currently viewing may not be the final outcome. I have 2 computer at home and 2 at work and they seem to show up a little differently on all of them. Also to me the skiff video looks like a better quality video than the kayak video. Of course I'm using using the same vid-camara. Maybe it's me being to critical? Thanks for your input.. :thumbright:

Hey Kevin..Thanks! I would say it took an about 1 to 1-1/2 hours. I'm still learning the software so I was a little slow at it. Still got to figure out about adding music. Once I get better at it I'm sure I can do under an hour. Mitzi's a fun alternative. Now it's time to figure out how to carry some kayaks so I could yak-fish in no-mans land.. :D Still can't bet the best skinny water fishing out of a kayak you know!.. :thumbleft:

I also got one of these camcorders for Christmas and have been trying to figure out the best way to mount it in the kayak. I currently have a homemade bracket attached to my rod holder for my still camera but want something different for the camcorder. I want to take pictures ahead of the kayak, or facing me with fish in hand, or quickly release from the mount and use by hand. I'm currently working on a way to do that using parts from an inexpensive tripod that I got from Target.

I've attached a picture of the way I currently have it mounted. This isn't good because it picks up a lot of noise if you have a rod in the rod holder. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hey Rich!!! Congrats to you and your buddy on the nice redfish on the Longrods in Lake Advisory Warnings!!!

Impressive video taken by your new Sanyo Xacti VPC.....I bought my daughter one (but not the HD version) back before Thanksgiving as an early Christmas present for $149!!!

Your video was very impressive especially when you consider the conditions you were in!!! The "video stabilization" feature seems to work fine!!! Audio quality was good too, even with the wind howling!! Ya dun good on your first try!!! Congrats....JohnYaksJax

RamblinWreck:I'm with you on that! Looks like you've done a pretty job good so far with the mounting. My next thing was to try and figure that out to. I have no clue yet and want to somehow use my Ram ball mount parts, etc. I'd want mine to sit up high at around eye level for better perspective. Maybe you can get a post going on the rigging section of this forum? I bet you'll get more ideas from the folks here on that board(where are you captkenroy when we need you?). I don't think many people will see were asking for help here. Thanks for the photo! Helps a bunch :thumbleft:

JYJ:Thanks for the feedback there Buddy! These camera's have come a long way. They were double and triple the price I paid not to long ago too!..

Rich,
Those are nice videos. Did software come with that camera for editing or did you have to purchase one?

Sorry Grass! I just saw this question. I guess out of sight , out of mind.. Yes the editing software came with the camara. It's called Xacti Software CD 1.2 by ArcSoft. I'm not crazy about it. It just doesn't do enouph for me. Any body out there can recommend one?
