After reading this article, I wonder.... Why are they making yellow kayaks!!!! :drunken: :drunken:

One of the most persistent superstitions among fishermen, and professional anglers in particular, is the belief that having bananas aboard a boat is extremely unlucky. Bananas have been blamed for boating accidents, breakdowns, illness, poor catches, and more.

The curse of the banana extends well beyond the fruit itself. Anything that has an image of a banana or the word banana on it is often banned from the boat. Some even go so far as to ban anything yellow from the boat. One account relates to a captain who was taking a couple out on a fishing charter and was surprised when the woman showed up wearing a bright yellow bikini. He would not allow her to board his vessel until she had returned to her hotel and changed her outfit. She thought it was silly. The captain, however, was dead serious.

So, just what the heck was the genesis of this banana brouhaha? Well, it’s hard to say. One story has it that it began with banana boats transporting the fruit from Central America to the United States. It’s said that some of these boats experienced heavy weather and sea water made its way into the ship holds where the bananas were stored. The bananas allegedly absorbed much of the water making the whole cargo heavier, changing the center of gravity for the ship and causing it to founder and sink.

Another possible rational for the banana bewilderment might simply be the fish stories exchanged between fishermen. Over the years, tale after tale of bad luck when an angler had bananas on board have been handed down and readily accepted with the bananas becoming the scapegoat.

Whatever the root cause actually might be, as they say, perception is reality and it has led to the infamous banana ban. Indeed, some anglers won’t even enjoy a tasty banana daiquiri or the palate pleasing delights of a banana split or bananas foster for fear it will have an impact on the next day’s fishing. Thus, the persecution of the banana continues.

:D :D :D I admit to making a banana sacrifice on boating adventures (chucking it in the trash at the dock before boarding the boat). Don't know if it relates to yaks tho as I thoroughly enjoy my banana boat and all the bounty she has brought me!

Yellow is lucky for some. Look at Skeet Reese of BASS fame. Has has won virtually all the possible awards but on top of that is I believe the highest paid endorser of fishing related products on the tour. Also local angler Terry Scroggins (Big Show) out of Palataka is another yellow fan and an upcoming force on the tour roo. I guess there is hope for my W500 in banana yellow

This is the answer that I have heard most often about bananas:

"Transoceanic crossings in the 17th and 18th centuries were very risky endeavors and vessels often stopped in tropical islands to gather additional provisions, including crates of bananas. Those crates would host all manner of potentially deadly critters.

These include bugs, spiders, vermin and snakes that made their way into the bilges of the ships, multiplied and then found their way into the quarters. The captains circulated rumors that bananas were bad luck in an attempt to keep the critters off the ship and out of the cabins."

However, I am a proud member of the "No Bananas Fishing Team"....LOL!!\

Scrambled Banannas (sporting a Yellow Scrambler) seems to have good luck fishing!! Maybe Scrambled negates the Banannas. who knows, I just wish I had his luck sometimes.

This is too funny. My wife gives me a hard time because I fish in her words from a giant banana (Yellow Tarpon 120). I also eat at least one banana a day, and many times will eat one just before I leave to go fishing. I'll never forget the time my kayak bumped into my wife's kayak and the first words out of her mouth were, get that damm yellow banana away from my boat!
