I'm still a noob as well. But there's a great link at the top of this page that says "Fishing Spots". It has lots of useful info about areas and corresponding launches.

That's all I've used so far.

Haulover creek it is off of heckscher drive is a good place to put in a kayak. You can find the location in the fishing spots at the top .I have caught some nice flounder there and it is an easy paddle through the area.

Welcome to this site. For some reason, people that have their sites for fishing protect them thinking we are either all soon to be professional guides or are going to take all of the fish from their spots.

There are some great holes down in St Augustine. Fish north of Vilano, Guana, south of the dam, or SR206 at the Crescent Bridge. All of these places are fishie at times. At others? well I guess other people have gotten all of my fish. :?

Sorry I cannot help you in the J'ville area.

It's a little bit of a paddle but try leaving the boat ramp at Clapboard Creek, head away from the bridge, take your first right which I think is Hannah Mills (I could be wrong) but it's the way to get to the Intracoastal from there. Once in that creek, pass the first major creek on your left and then go into the second major creek to your left. That whole area is good for trout. Go a little further into that creek and you will see two openings to your left. The second one has a major island at low tide and just outside of that island, to the right of it as you are going in is the best place for trout. I have caught them before with a cajun popping cork and a DOA shrimp but obviously a live shrimp does a little better. Just keep popping that cork....it's their dinner bell and they come running. But that whole area there is loaded with trout. I have only caught rat reds in there but I am sure there are some bigger ones.

Good luck.

gotta remember..... there are lots of Lurkers who visit this website. Other than the Fishing Spots link, if you have a specific spot you wish to share... PM's are the way to go :!:

Actually, I think the folks on this website do an outstanding job in sharing information and are more than willing to help Newbies.

I do agree that there are some that will help some out, but I have also seen and experienced several people that consider them "purist" and expect everyone to suffer and find their own holes. Several of my friends from that site have discussed that it is almost "exclusive" and go overboard in protecting areas. We should work together to grow the sport and not just limit the site to saltwater. There are a great many out there wanting to get information on freshwater and also fly fishing. My overall issue is the wbanker had posted and several people read and made no response. It is almost as if we have to go through an initiation period and get "broken in" before we are considered "one of the boys."

Just my 2 cents, but not just from me, from several members. I have just been told that I don't hold back and speak what I think. I hope this opens up more discussion to assist those wanting to get help. If I offended anyone...well....we need to wear our big boy britches if we are going to fish the big waters.

It will be a bit of a drive for you, but I've had luck recently on the west side of Guana Lake north of the dam - 1/2 mile to 1 mile up the lake. A little further down AIA you can turn right on to Boat House road where you can park and launch into the intracostal. Being very careful of the power boats you can cross into Robinson Creek. It is a very good place to fish for reds on the falling tide. I also like the Crescent Beach area, but that is another 10 or so miles south of Vilano Beach. Jeffrey McGovern, the troll who lives under the SR 206 bridge posts regularly on this site and is generous in sharing information about lures, etc. I also like the flats west of Devil's Elbow around the creek mouths (not now because of the rain, but once the water gets back to normal you can find some good flounder in that area). I always launch out of the Shady Oyster. It's a short paddle over to the flats around both the south and north sides of the bridge and about a mile north to the mouth of Moses Creek. It's about a one to two mile paddle to the Devil's Elbow area. You have to be a bit careful if you are there with the falling tide because it is possible to get trapped behind the oyster bars.

Good luck and welcome. (BTW - bet that the bottom of that fine looking kayak won't be guite so shiny after a few trips in the intracostal.)

Speaking for myself, I think most of us are more than willing to give general advise on where to fish. If you think we are supposed to lead you to our favorite hot spots you probably kidding yourself.

Most of us have earned our favorites by going out and finding them ourselves. Doubt we are going to give them up by "rolling over" for someone.

Quite often you see where it is offered for a new person to join up for a day of fishing with some of the more experienced fishermen. In fact, I could quickly name half dozen folks who make that offer. You won''t see that on many other website

One of the rules that has been enforced on this website is the fact that it is prohibited to post specific fishing spots :!: While you may be willing to give up a special spot, it may also be the favorite spot of 2-3 other website members. Remember there are many stinkpot LURKERS who would love to be sitting in your honey hole

For the flyfishermen, there is a special section for those folks. While this site is 99% saltwater fishing, we do see some freshwater posts. To each his own

Bottom line is that there is a price to pay to become a good fisherman. It's something you earn :!:

You still do not see what I am trying to get across. I know that there is a fly fishing spot. From what I understand, it was almost eliminated. I also that a large number of people on this site are saltwater fishing people, that is because most people are turned away when asking for any advice. As a group, we should welcome all types of fishing. This is one of the most diverse spots in the southeast. The only thing missing is a good trout stream but that is only 8 hours away.

I know that there are great people here, I have meet them and fished with them, but there are also a great many purist that will not offer much advice other than suffer on your own. What a great way to turn away a beginer.

I have never said to give personal honey holes away, but this guy was asking for a general area for fishing. I have been with the group for several years and have often run into the same. There are about 10 people that always go to bat for the newbie, but many others skip and pass.

What I have noticed is that since this banter back and forth, there has been a great deal of "opening" up of variouis areas. My general take is that we as a group need to be more open minded to all of the resources and types of fishing and great with open arms. As a member of Trout Unimited, any time I go to a new area for trout fishing, I email or call one of the local chapters and there are many people that willl meet me and take me fishing and show me the ins and outs of that particular area. That is what I am meaning. This should not be viewed as an exclusive club that people have to pay their "experience" dues to become accepted. That is a country club or fishing club.

Just a couple of comments and then I am done expressing my opinions...

I have freshwater fly fished for over 20 years. I go to the mountains each year for my fix. I don't go to Jaxkayakfishing.com to look for information. That is what other websites are all about.

I would be more than happy to take you fishing anytime and show you "my" waters

Other than that..... find a specfic creek, fish it and learn it :!:

:bolt:

thank you for everyone that helped... i am not a lurker, hahaha, and i wasnt asking for personal honey whole spots, just solid spots that i can invest the small amount of time that i actually have to get out and fish into and learn... i can only get out once a week, if that, usually on sundays... but like i said, i really appreciate all the info... if i was as knowledgable about the area as some of you i would have no problem helping a new yaker out, but i wouldnt give up honey hole spots so thats why i didnt ask for them..

apparently i started a pretty heated convo about this between a few members but all in all i was just frustrated that so many people had looked ut no body was helping... im not looking for turn by turn directions, even though a few member did give me that which i do appreciate, but a quick try the creeks here, or try the flats there help alot... i think the members who did try to help me out are about growing the sport.

this entire site is about growing the sport, i would have never bought a yak and fished in the area if i hadnt found this site by accident... i just moved here, and i wont be here for long so i just want to get some quality fishing in when and while i can, before i head back to new orleans...

thanks again
