Rahoolio and I met up at and went looking for Sheepshead down at Salt Run. This would have been a first of the species for us both so we decided to use the best bait as possible. and we baited up with 3 dozen Fidlers and 4 dozen shrimp from Shady Oyster and heade back over to Salt Run. We were on the water by 10:30 and headed East so we cold drift down with the tide. Within 5 Minutes we had hooked up with a Blue and a trout. Then the bite shut down. We hit the pilings with Crabs and Shrimp and they Sheeps were not cooperating. After a bit of drifting we decided to anchor up and see if the fish could pass us instead of the other way around. Wel that one worked and we quickly found a mixed bag. Mangroves, Orangemouths and spotted trout. The Orangemouths were legal but the spotted were short.

We then ran out of bait so I paddled down to the Marina to get some more bait. On my way back I saw a guy cleaning barnicles off a piling... Bingo! I paddled over and dropped down a fidler. Sure enough, Slam! the guy on the dock actually helped net the Sheepie! He measured in at 14" and in the cooler he went. I tried for a little longer but needed to get bait back to Rahoolio. We fished for around an hour longer but decided to head out after the Sand Trout moved in.

We may have only caught one Sheepshead but we had an awesome day on the water! Rahoolio snapped the pics so hopefully he can post them later.

Thanks guys dreads and John, we definetly had a good time. the paddle back in a 20+ MPH headwind was a bit of a challenge but well worth it for the days fishing! The interesting thing about the sheepshead was that I knew what type of bite to look for thanks to some of the reports on this site. They bite similar to a spotted bay bass out in CA which is more of a pressure bite. felt it on, wound down and fish on! Hopefully that will be the same the next time I catch one.

He is on the menu for tonights dinner!

A great day of fishing indeed! Baitfish, thanks again for getting us on some fish! I will be sure to head back to your area again. That was one of the most productive days I've had on a yak. Next time, you should head up this way.
With the weather we are having this week, I'm sure glad we hit the water on Saturday. May be a while before I head out again. Saturday was sunny and 75 degrees. I even got a little too much sun. My only question as I watch the winter storms hit up north, "Do they know what is going on down here"? I mean, the north is getting drummed with snow and we are out on the kayaks getting sunburned! Gotta love it.

A little too much sun is right, my legs got roasted! That reminds me I need to call my dad who lives in NY and ask him if the stores carry Aloe this time of year! :D  I'm glad we got on some fish even though just a paddle would have been ok with that weather.

Once the weather changes and Ice won't build up on my yak, we should definitely hit it up again. I have been wanting to get up North for a trip as well.
