Me and my fishing buddy got up at the crack of dawn to head down to Faver Dykes park and fish Pellicer, stopping to pick up some mud minnows and shrimp along the way.

Image

Threw the cast net a few times to pick up some bait fish from the dock before heading out.

Image

The air was pretty chilly when we put in but the water was flat and the sun was just starting to burn off the fog.

Image

We paddled all the way from the park dock down to the flats and NOTHING would touch the shrimp. Finally managed a couple of rat reds down near a small island by the intracoastal.

Even though the fish weren't biting, it was still a great morning to be out on the water!

Nice redfish! :thumbleft: And good technique on the castnet -- the Olympic judges scored you a 9.8 on that one. :wav:

LOL - nope, the score stands. The pinky of the right hand was overextended by 2 mm. See Olympic Committee castnet competition rule #473-5(a)(iii).

Sorry fellow judges... only a 9.7

While the form is a perfect 10.0 the landing was off. If you will carefully study the instant replay, the cast net was thrown to high therefore allowing the baitfish sufficent time to escape :D

While I can toss a cast net, it never looks as purty as this picture of you throwing it out there

Much as I'd like to take credit for the cast netting - that's my buddy and his "patented technique"!

I can throw the net Ok but it's nowhere near as purty!

Good day on the water. I have never had success catching fishing when I put in at F-D, the fish seem to be closer to the Intercoastal, so i just put in at PPP to save paddling time......but it is purty up that way!!

9.7 is generous. Good form, but that bare midriff? - not pretty!

Hey BrownTrout......It was the Russian judge who gave it a 5.7.....Dang Russian judges always screwed us at the Olympics!!!

Nice report and pix.....I really like it down there, but have only launched once at F-D, and that was almost 5 years ago!!

PPP is the place....FREE....Closer to the Flats and the creeks that drain into/out of the ICW....and easy launches!!

Good stuff tho.....JohnYaksJax

I think you guys are right about launching at Princess Place. We weren't catching anything until we got there. Definitely going to try putting in there next time.

I noticed that the fishing spot advice says there is a cut from the launch straight through to the flats (under a walking bridge). Have you guys used it? If so, is it affected by the tide (something I'd have to time in order to get back in through that route)?
