I put a Yakima mount on top of my truck cab, and used uni-strut to make a rack that stands in the bed. I can put 2 kayaks in saddles, or four on edge using the Kayak Stacker, and still have the bed for gear. If it's just one or two boats for a short trip, I use a bed extender. That unistrut is handy...

Garmin, Garmin, Garmin. Get a used 76 on eBay for $80-90. Waterproof, floats, runs on 2 AAs, Limited memory, and to get good detail you need to buy some software and download your area, but it will hold the entire region along the coast. AND it locks into the marine mount, not like the earlier 42, 4...

There was a post in this forum I think about a fairlead system - I tried it and it works great and it's simple and unobtrusive and you can use really light line and it's easy to rig it in a way for quick disconnect and all that stuff. And it's easy to anchor from bow or stern just two simple buttons...

I have done this for years - when new, I take apart my reels and coat everything I can with a good waterproof grease - typically teflon or silicone. Not as a lubricant, but as a surface sealer.
