Re: Help needed for my old polar bear cooler

That's another way for sure.

I just wanted to say - I'm not arguing against icing down your catch - any way you please. And more fresh genuine ice is probably best. What I do is convenient and successful for me.

I guess the quote in my signature applies.....

Re: Help needed for my old polar bear cooler

Before I started using the flat cooler bag, I kept a 5 gallon bucket back there. I would catch a keeper and toss it in the bucket. Year round. No ice. Maybe a towel thrown over the top in the summer, especially mid day. After I read about bleeding fish on this site, I started doing that. The benefit...

Re: Help needed for my old polar bear cooler

My Costco bag is 18" x 24", zipper along a 24" side, with two webbing handles. It is meant to get your refrigerated or frozen food home from the store in good shape, and it does that well. It is a cloth exterior and appears to be durable. I throw in about 5 or 6 frozen 16 oz water bottles when I lea...

Re: Help needed for my old polar bear cooler

I have several. Three different sizes. One has a slow leak. I learned this when I left it on the wood floor in the breakfast room overnight. It was out of the 1-year warranty by a couple of years. So now I use it with plastic freezer blocks or tec ice which produce little moisture when they thaw. Or...

Re: Little Talbot Campout - Reschedule?

Has anyone picked a campsite yet? Particularly "dinner central"?

Re: Little Talbot Campout - Reschedule?

I'm in! Last time there was two years ago. You may remember that I was about a week out of surgery, and only spent one night. But how I needed that night! Even though I couldn't consume alcohol. But - no such restrictions this time. And maybe I'll even catch some fish.

Re: Camping trip firewood

Thanks, chef. At the last Talbot Island camp out, I heard talk of all those things, but all we did was melt glass in that puny little excuse for a fire! And we didn't even have a bellows! (remember, that was a thick-walled whiskey bottle, too!) I may split some more of it and let it dry. Hopefully w...

Yeah, I get that! I have to wade through my neighbor's stuff to get this to the curb!

Camping trip firewood

I'm pretty sure we'll reschedule our trip soon. In the meantime I have a question for some of the more knowledgeable campers out there. Matthew provided me with a clean-up project by blowing down a 70 foot Siberian Elm (only identified this morning). I've been cutting it up into 16" - 20" lengths an...

Re: Little Talbot State Park Campout

Well, if I can get the chainsaw fired up, I'll have some firewood for when we reschedule........

We got through it with little damage and a lot of debris. One large tree down that fell towards the house, but was thankfully "under slot".

Re: Little Talbot State Park Campout

That's the way it should work, too. So good on you, mate! If they had told me it would happen, I probably would have believed them.

And to whoever is listening......please don't pick November 12 for a do-over!

Re: Little Talbot State Park Campout

Same experience. Ranger called and left a message that they would not honor my reservation, and to CALL Reserve America to get a refund. It took a while, but they will refund ALL the money I've paid, including the fee for making the reservation and the sales tax. Whoo-hoo! If you wait until tomorrow...

Re: Little Talbot State Park Campout

I've resigned myself to the idea of cancelling, but I've seen these things change course enough that I'll wait until tomorrow to do it. My wife, however, is resigned to the idea of me being here those four days, so she asked about storm preparations. "I've got it all covered." I said. After 45 years...

Re: Little Talbot State Park Campout

Yeah, it looks pretty bad, doesn't it? I guess there's no sense in pulling all that gear down off the top shelf in the garage.

I wonder what the deal is with refunds? If they close the park, is the deal any better than if I just cancel and pay the fee? Anybody know?

Thanks.
