Re: fernandina flounder
I'm living near Topsail Island now and I went out the other night and as soon as I was unloading there was a few folks unloading their kayaks and lights to gig across from where I was going. I started out on the beach on the south side of Topsail and about a mile down saw some other folks wading hea...

Re: Night fishing
float plan light producing item ( flashlight, head lamp, visi carbon pole) pfd fish eat at night. Some become even more aggressive. fish a spot you know inside and out. The reason i say this is that you don't want to push into a creek and get stuck. If you do fish a creek be leery of where boat tra...

Re: Permit for Rallies / Tournaments / Charity Events ?
MEPs have always been required and is nothing new. You can even submit one online https://homeport.uscg.mil/mycg/portal/ep/marine_event/marine_event_form.jsp . Basically, this is a way to make sure all safety precautions have been taken. Yes many people here and other events do take safety precautio...
Re: Moving On
Ya it should be good and family is only a few hours away. I just looked at their rules and it seems they are tighter with how many you can keep. That ok I am lucky if I ever get close to the max down here. Well except for flounder.
Re: Moving On
Thanks everyone, it should be fun to learn a new area and I will miss this backyard that we have here. Yooper - they should be coming in soon. I charged my batteries last night and I am hoping to go try a few times in the next few weeks. DaveInYak - even thought I appreciate being called a Marine be...

Moving On
Well it is official, the military has decided to move me to Camp Lejeune, NC in a few months. Orders have been signed and house purchased. This is going to be one hard place to leave and I wanted to send out a big THANKS to the site members. I have learned a lot from folks here on the site and in pe...

Re: Another non pfd wearing death
I will admit that it is uncomfortable to wear them but if you are going to dedicate yourself to be on the water then spend the extra money and get an inflatable one.

Re: Coast Guard searching for missing kayaker
Sounded like he rented the kayak also, I wonder why the place he rented didn't give him a heads up on the weather.

Re: Coast Guard searching for missing kayaker
I haven't seen anything yet but what is on the news. I wonder what took so long to figure things out. It said that he was last seen on Friday night with plans on going out on the kayak Saturday but the CG was not informed until Sunday night by the Jacksonville Beach Police.

Coast Guard searching for missing kayaker
Not sure if everybody saws this but if you were out in the area and may have seen someone with a lime green and white kayak around the Jacksonville Beach Pier area let the Coast Guard know. http://i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag412/Ron_Nakamoto/635578102894948758-garth-sangree_zpshgbdgyd5.png JACKSO...
