Re: porn trolls on this site removal

I've run several forum based sites like this, and by far the easiest way to virtually eliminate drive-by spam posts like these are to require the first 2-3 posts of every new user to be approved before showing up on the board. Yes, it requires a little more time from the admins/moderators, but it's ...

Re: SML

That's true, Dogyak! So, if nothing else, all this "fickery" has caused the two of us to come together. Now they're in trouble! We'll be moving from Fairfax, VA back to the Nocatee hacienda in a short 9 months, and I'm really hoping all this nonsense will have settled down by then so I can enj...

Re: Native Slayer 10 Stand-up and outriggers

When I was watching your video, at first glance with the lid up, the bait bucket reminded me of a toilet. :bounce:

Re: Is a depth finder worth it?

I only use one when freshwater fishing deeper water. I don't use it when saltwater inshore fishing. If I want to find out where the structure is, I'll simply wait for low tide...haha. I have an older monochrome Humminbird all-in-one unit (Fishin Buddy 110) that I have rigged Scotty mounts for in bot...

Re: Native Slayer 10 Stand-up and outriggers

Looks really good! Rigging kayaks like that has become a lost art these days. You did a great job! The walker for the standup bar is genius. Although, I do have to admit, that I was a little disappointed that what turned out to be a bait bucket wasn't a toilet. I was getting really jealous over the ...

Re: For Canoe Folks -- Rigging a Canoe for Fishing (Done Cheap!)

Well, it wasn't easy to let it go with all the great memories of fishing with my then young boys, but my rather infamous Scanoe has now been sold to a great family up in Fernandina who has two young children about the age mine were when we first started on this project. I'm sure they'll have a great...

Re: SML

Gotta agree with Chris and Ron...above!! The management of the SML end of the Lake is terrible!! The upper end is managed by the Guana Management and the Lower end is managed by the FL Dept. of Natural Resources and the FFWCC and all three seem to have vested interests!! :angryfire: The "repairs" t...

Re: SML

I am convinced that the lake is managed to benefit the hunters and not the fisherman. I'm not sure what it benefits when they do something like this. If they really want the grass to recover, then maybe this creek should've never been dammed to create a lake in the first place? The fact is the dam ...

Re: SML

The powers that be usually raise the water back up from the spring draw-down when someone finally remembers that Guana Lake is supposed to be a LAKE...y'know, like with water in it. Unfortunately, it can sometimes take a while for them to come to that realization.

Re: My dam problem

The dam only controls the amount of saltwater coming into the lake -- not freshwater. About the only thing that controls freshwater is the amount of rain. I don't know about down by the dam, but the crabs are in crazy amounts and big up at Six Mile Landing. I went out yesterday and all I caught (on ...

Re: Guana levels

Good to know! Maybe they won't maintain the Spring drawdown so long into the summer this year since they had it down for such a long time during the dam construction. I would definitely appreciate it.

Re: Guana levels

Record lousy duck season, drawing down the the lake levels to mud during prime fishing time, and you watch -- it'll be at that same low level most, if not all, of the summer. It really makes one wonder what the purpose Guana Lake really is anymore? It's a little difficult to claim they're maintainin...

Re: Loving this swimbait

I got forced back into freshwater fishing when I "temporarily" (only one more year!) moved to Fairfax, VA, and it's been an eye opener for sure! When I first got into canoe/kayak fishing 8 or so years ago, I only had freshwater fishing experience, but that was from back in my childhood and nothing l...

Re: Spray skirts and cockpit covers

That kayak has a big cockpit opening, so it's not going to be as easy to find a generic spray skirt to fit it. I think Dick's or Field & Stream sells a generic one that fits. You would have to doublecheck the dimensions to be sure.

Re: Choosing a no-fuss kayak motor.

Can you tell us a little more about your kayak? Is it a sit-inside or sit on top model? I am a bit concerned because kayaks weighing only 20kg usually do not have a very significant weight capacity, so that might limit you more than anything for adding a motor to your kayak. I'm honestly not sure if...
