Linda Netti Memorial Kayak Challenge 2018

I had to take a little time to reflect on this. Not happy. 1. Not one post have I seen about it in this kayak form. 2. I am so happy that I got to attend and do my best. 3. If I am not mistaken, over $11,000 was raised! (not sure). I hope this is true. 4. That was my first time at a "captian's meeti...

Re: Fort George

Not sure what it was on Tuesday. but yesterday the barometric pressure was stupid low. I haven't seen it drop below 30 in over a year or so. When you say "dead", were there no signs of wild life? Were the birds hunkered down? Fiddler crabs out? They may have been going deep do to the drop in pressur...

Re: I can't stop upgrading!

Tadpole is right. If this were a novel about a boy and his dog lost in the wilderness and the dog died, while saving the boy during a wolf pack attack, I would be rich! But it's not. It is about a grown man, who loves being next to, in, and on top of the water. I do not own a camera, or a phone! I a...

Re: I can't stop upgrading!

I bought a couple of rod holders. Figured out the best placement for them, so I could reach them and keep the rods out of the way of the kayak trolley I would also be caring. I did use your standard zip ties to secure them to the crate, but I also used a glue gun on every solid point of contact the ...

Re: I can't stop upgrading!

SO...… Now I have my crate. Everyday I would come home from work, open my apartment door, and there it waited for me. I kept looking at it. I over thought it a lot! At this point, "the brick" did not have any attachment points to secure the crate. Didn't care. At that time, It was really about focus...

Re: I can't stop upgrading!

That Walmart crate now holds all my un-used, unpackaged impulse buys in a corner. GET A REAL MILK CRATE! They are strong, durable, and can be modified in so many ways! Often, I have seen them for free. And if you have one to give away, let me know. (I still need to make a lid). But. If you have to b...

Re: I can't stop upgrading!

I bought one of those "cheap" crates from Walmart. It was long and wide enough to give me ample storage, (or so I thought). I continued to paddle, the whole time thinking how cool it will be once I finish my crate. This crate greeted me every night I came home. When I first bought it, I test fitted ...

Re: I can't stop upgrading!

Worry not Tadpole!
Here they come.
The very first thing I found out was I needed more "deck space" to carry my gear. and carry it organized and compact, while it was easy to get to.

Welcome to the "Crate."

Re: I can't stop upgrading!

During my little test runs, I think I have met Ol' Blue. He was testing out a home made stabilizer system on his canoe. Given that I was still getting ready to hack my yak, I had to approach him and tell him how cool I thought that was. Even though this was his first test, He took the time to show m...

Re: I can't stop upgrading!

The Tamarack came with two bungee cord strap downs. One in the bow, that is a bit out of reach while on the water. And one in the stern, behind the seat. They are held with hook cleats. I am Not a fan of this type of tie down. The bungee cord was stretched too tight and is strung in a way that reall...

Re: I can't stop upgrading!

And here is where I began this story. At Walmart, telling some poor associate that I wanted that kayak, right now. It was going to be sold! I already knew that the items I just bought a few day before, equaled the cost of the kayak, (maybe more). But I was, (and probably should be) committed to what...
